I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this rant but lol here it goes,,,it seems that many life skills here are just support skills, for quests and are very weak for making good coins, sure theres cooking, and craft, but lets face it,fishing and wood cutting are really weak in terms of making money,i really liked the job npc on the first fox for that reason, for 9 years I asked myself why have fishing if you cant do nothing with the fish,,the fishing skill needs a revamp so that the fish can be used for hp pots at least, that would open up a whole new market, and give that skill a reason to have besides for a few tax quests and the like,,,i realize that woodcutting is used to make certain items in manu and for repair of boats, but the market for wood is also slow, sure the furtune tree, and wood strips, and again tax quests,,any thoughts on how we can make the skills better id love to hear, another thing that always erked me is why our boats look like a toy in a bath tub,,i mean really lol,the ships parked in arg habor are way better looking then the ones we get to buy,,please don't take this post as a insult to pko or fox as its a great game and you guys do a good job,its just for the sake of maybe making pko even better,,,cheers

I'm a voyager who hates the sea!!! o_O

On side note, we could put the fish as part of upcoming guild leveling requirement so that PKO natural resources
are utilized fully.

a voy who hates the sea,,that says a lot.i find it funny that a pirate game that has a sea option and boats that are seldom used, your not the only one that dislikes the sea, many things could make it more fun,and its always the last thing GM'S look at to improve,,a vast sea with miles to sail but the rewards are few:(

To be honest, the whole concept of Sea in this game is totally lame. In those miles, there's nothing really exciting to see, besides a few islands here and there, some lighthouses, and small bits of land where you can't even land on or restock on "supplies" called Havens, and there's about a dozen(?) of them on the whole wide sea. The rest is just the plain ol' blue sea. Not to mention the Monsters are far less diverse than on Land; it's either Mermaids, Jellies, Fish Bones or Dolphins. The only pirate-like mobs on the sea are the Pirate Ships.

On top of that, I think that "using" the sea is quite boring, compared to land. Not only is getting to the best ship possible easy (All it takes is 100k gold in your Inventory), but the "commands" on sea are extravagantly dull. It's either ctrl+shift+clicking and shooting cannon balls or, if you're a sea voy, using two skills you probably get bored of using after 3-4 sequences.

I don't mean to bash on the Sea, I'm not a big fan of it, but I do enjoy it in some sense. Though I can see why many, many don't. It's just plain boring with nothing to do there, except for stuff which is mandatory. (LB, cooking, RB, etc.) I believe that the amount of work which would have to be put into upgrading the whole sea system is so big that it would hardly pay off.

Even if the sea was made more interesting to the public (And good luck with that), it would probably have to be done via some incentives. There's no reason left to play for fun, exploration, small tasks, it's all about rushing the game and becoming pro asap, so even with all that hypothetical work, I still strongly believe that a bunch of people would be unsatisfied or uninterested in it.

As for your OP,
fishing and wood cutting are really weak in terms of making money
Both are still useful in some sense. Not everything has to be a way of making money. From my experience, the people who generally use Wood, fish, etc. (And there's not that many) tend to farm it on their own.
the fish can be used for hp pots at least
Well, that's a rather interesting idea, though a lot of Cooking Pots which do restore HP and give some other bonus are made from fish, so indirectly they are used as HP pots.
any thoughts on how we can make the skills better id love to hear
Honestly, there really are a lot of things in the game which have little to no use, and directly intervening in making those items part of the Market can potentially lead to unnecessary inflation. I think lifeskills are honestly just fine, they have reasons to be used, it's just that those "reasons" are not something that's being done everyday or frequently enough for lifeskills to become a "profession" with which you can earn yourself a living. Pushing them in that direction is not the way to go if you ask me.

You could very well be right that even if fox made the sea better many would still ignore it,but I'm willing to bet if you made the drops better, gems, refines, etc that many people would flock there,as you said its all about getting pro fast,i love the server being old school slow lvling but fox had the right idea with the job npc on the first server,it made the gap between cashers and non-cashers smaller,

As someone who played Fox from the start, it's not the jobs NPC that made it easier for non-mallers to catch up, it was the IGSP system, and the fact that the best Gems and the second best gear was obtainable by quite literally everyone, and genuinely solo.

The jobs NPC was simply there to pump money into the game. Here, inflating money is never a good idea, because stronger people will be able to have more money and be in a better financial position considering the rise in prices that naturally comes with the process.

As for making the drops better, the only "common, everyday" drops would be Gems, and we have many of those already, especially refs which are oversupplied. Adding mall stuff to the sea (i.e. ratz or fruits) would lead to either the sea method being less efficient than buying the item from a maller, or better in the sense that malling particular everyday items becomes null and void (something we don't want - for the well-being of the server).

To a point leba but tbh It will take me forever here to save up 80 mill for a top notch gun, something that the IGSP wouldn't have helped with much, sure I could have spammed those points like many did ,and sit on the spawn and again I think that system was very abused in that manner but here again I mostly just got my igsp points from solo grinding, yet I had the option to cut wood for hours a day to make those coins,i don't have the answer ,and I know its a fine line between making cash to keep fox running and making people happy, but as it stands only cashers will be super great here, sure ill cash some, but only a handful will care enough to spend a ton of cash to beat the top cashers and in the end server will suffer, many will leave because whats the point in spending months lvling up,when you just cant keep up with cash, many will just give up and find another server, not me mind you,i play for fun and don't even pvp lol,im a pure grinding fool, but I'm also very old and its more of a time killer for me,but the kids?they want to pvp.they want to win,,from what I see its voys that kill a market mostly with auto skill, like sealed bp,the first pko they sold 100k easy, now they are hardly worth hunting for unless your a voy who can sit on a mob,,dont take me wrong the auto skill is nice at times but its abused by voys to the point that to make great money here, being a voy is the way to go,they sell tons of manu items daily, bps, the list is long,so I'm not so sure auto skills are helping or hurting,i think in the long run they will hurt, but that's my opinion only
