It means you've advanced into second class, thus cannot use item.

You need to open lv 35 chest while first class, not second class.

Happened to my cleric and yes I had to delete it since it became useless.

There was some talk on an earlier topic to make the chest able to be opened when promoted already. I think that would be a very good addition.
