Question about forging sealed items

Correct me if i am wrong , when attemping to forge sealed items , and later on unseal it. The forging effects / sockets will be lost right? i lean towards 90% believing such thing will happen.
Can anyone confirm this. Thanks for your time to reply.

You Lose the sockets/gems in the sealed stuff, the npc just give the unsealed item by id
Example: you unsealed a staff of evanescence, NPC will give u item with id 787.
To have that item with sockets and gems, the id will change to something like 787,01,10 (I actually don't remember how the id sockets works)
