Game crashes at loading screen since last update.

The client is crashing on my server as of the last update - it was working fine, I restarted the client after the update and it just dies. Windows gives out a DX8 DLL error, like so:

Tried reinstalling, moving the DLL/exe from my workstation but to no avail. It just refuses to launch.

More info...

While the crash hasn't been resolved, running the client from a W7 VM in that same host seems to work - but not on the physical host itself.
