Mystery solved. Didn't notice that my xp from just sailing stopped around 1000. By that point, I was going out to train on enemies so much that my ship xp kept going up at a similar rate. Add to that a bit of lag and it looks like proficiency isn't doing anything. Thanks for the answers guys...- Koopharper

No this is different than ship exp. I can track that and I can see it accumulate. I only get proficiency when I use my cannon and the ships exp does not go up from it. It has to be something else.- Koopharper

When I'm at sea and use my cannon on an enemy I gain something called proficiency. How do I know how much proficiency I've got? I've never been able to find where that stat is accumulating. Also, what good is it doing me? I don't get the impression that my cannon is hitting harder, faster or...- Koopharper
